Canada defeats Australia to say first Davis Cup title – TennisBuzz



Canada staff mates lifted the Davis Cup trophy for the very first time on Sunday after Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-2.

Regardless of initially being knocked out of the event by the Netherlands again in March, Canada was given a second probability because the highest-ranked eradicated nation when defending champion Russia was ejected following the invasion of Ukraine. 

Benefiting from their lifeline, Canada then survived the elimination rounds in September in Valencia to succeed in the ultimate eight in Malaga this week.

 Within the quarterfinals on Thursday, Canada dispatched Germany and on Saturday they then defeated Italy within the semifinals.
